Abyssinian Cat Breed

ABYSSINIAN CATS

The Abyssinian has a colorful coat marked with ticking. It is of medium size and regal looking. It resembles a wild cat. A very curious cat of good temperament, loyal and affectionate. The Abyssinian makes a wonderful companion cat.

Abyssinian's are one of the world's oldest known breeds of cats.  Although it looks like a jungle cat, they have also retained the look of the Egyptian cats we see in sculptures and paintings. In the United States there are four varieties, red, ruddy, blue and fawn..

It is not known where this cat actually originated. We do know the cat appeared in Britain after British Soldiers returned home from war in 1868.
In 1881 Britain recognized the Abyssinian as a breed. it took until 1986 for the U.S. to recognize the  Abyssinian as a separate breed.
