Abyssinian Cat Breed
The Abyssinian has a colorful coat marked with ticking. It is of medium size
and regal looking. It resembles a wild cat. A very curious cat of good
temperament, loyal and affectionate. The Abyssinian
makes a wonderful companion cat.
Abyssinian's are one of the world's oldest known breeds of cats. Although
it looks like a jungle cat, they have also retained the look of the Egyptian
cats we see in sculptures and paintings. In the United
States there are four varieties, red, ruddy, blue and fawn..
It is not known where this cat actually originated. We do know the cat appeared
in Britain after British Soldiers returned home from war in 1868.
In 1881 Britain recognized the Abyssinian as a breed. it took until 1986
for the U.S. to recognize the Abyssinian as a separate breed.
