Ainu Dog Breed
The history of the
Ainu Dog is very closely tied with the history of the
Ainu tribe. Along with their dogs, this old
tribe settled in Japan approximately three thousand
years ago. The dog has played an important part in the
history of dog breeds in Japan. The Ainu's fierce courage
and loyalty were very appealing traits and were probably taken into consideration
when bred through the years.
The dog has many desirable qualities. He is fearless,
a determined hunter, guard, and defender, and at the same
time a loyal and well-behaved dog.
Height - 18 to 22 inches (46 to 53 cm). Weight - 45 to 65 pounds (20 to 30
kg).
Coat type - medium short, double and erect. Color - gray, brown, red, white,
salt and pepper, or brindle.
