The Akita is designated as a national monument in Japan. The Akita is a dog with dignity combined with a good nature, alert courage and docility. The Akita is very affectionate with family members and friends and thrives on human companionship.

Typically reserved in demeanor, the Akita will always defend his family.

This dog is large, and of great strength. He is alert, fast, and intelligent with much substance and heavy bone.

Height- males, 26-28 inches; females, 24-26 inches.
