The American Shorthair is a hardy cat with a long life span and an agreeable personality. Truly a cat of the working breed  they once lived aboard ships catching rats that would eat the food supply. This cat is problem-free, gets along with all members of the family including dogs.  A strong,well-balanced cat with agility and endurance.

Once known as Shorthairs and then Domestic Shorthairs, this breed became officially established in 1904 with the registration of Buster Brown, the first cat to be registered with an unknown background. Ch.Belle of Bradford, red tabby male born June 1, 1900 was the first one registered.

A medium to large cat, the body is athletic and strong.  Full growth is not reached until three to four years of age.  Easy to groom, this cat will tolerate cold weather an great family pet.
