Canary Dog

The Appenzeller first appeared in the 1st century BC when the Roman legions introduced the ancient molossus to the Swiss Alpine region. It is thought that its traits were perfected centuries ago, probably through crossings with various herders and the Puli.

This dog is athletic and always on the go. He needs his space and a lot of exercise. The Appenzeller is intensely loyal and very territorial.

Height - 19 to 23 inches (48 to 59 cm).
Weight - 50 to 55 pounds (23 to 25 kg).

Coat type - short, smooth, and tight. Color - "tri-colored," black and tan with white on the chest, blaze, tail, and toes. The tan is always between the black and the white.
