ARABIAN HORSE BREED
ARABIAN HORSES
The Arabian horse is quite possibly the most beautiful and the noblest of
all the breeds.
The origins of the Arab are surrounded by romantic legends. One popular story
says that the prophet Mohammed wanted to select the very best horses for
his soldiers. He ordered his men to bring a herd of horses to an enclosure
and keep them there for seven days without water.
At the end of the week, part of the enclosure was taken down and the thirsty
horses raced towards a nearby pool. Suddenly Mohammed sounded the battle
call and five mares turned back toward him-the only horses to respond despite
their desperate thirst.
All pure bred Arabs are said to have descended from those five mares.
The Arab is unusual-they differ from most other horses because they have
19 instead of 18 pairs of ribs.
Height: 14-15 hands
Color: most often bay, chestnut, brown, or black
Personality: Famous for it's intelligence and lively nature as much as for
its loyalty and love of human company. Fast and of great endurance.
