Subject: Colombian Sharks Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000
Mr./Ms. Philip, I am well thank you. Columbian sharks are susceptible to the same diseases that many other fish are also susceptible to. Hole-in-the-head is not exclusive to Oscars. We see this disease in many of the larger fish including many saltwater species. Without knowing all the details, the guess here would be your water quality. When a fish is overcome with this disease, he/she should be separated to into a hospital tank. If you do not have this option, you should probably get one. This is a tank that is used exclusively for treatment. All hobbyists should have one to reduce the risk of infection to the other fish. This is a difficult disease to cure, but with patience it can be done. Another thought may be that the parasite was introduced through live foods. 1) Get a good, high-quality medicine designed for this parasite. 2) Make sure you test your water and keep your contaminants low. 3) Increase the vegetable content in the fishs food and if you can, cut out live foods for a while. When you begin using them again, make sure there are no parasites involved. This should get you started. Feel free to update when possible. Aquariaman |
