Basset Hound Dog Breed
|
|
An old, aristocratic breed, this dog originated in France. Though slow moving, Basset's have great intelligence. This dog is a long, low, with a very distinctive head. Long-eared but hears well. The dog is easy going and very loyal. He is a sturdy, accurate trailer. His slow going ways and appealing clownish appearance hides his great intelligence. In the U.S. he is mainly used for hunting rabbits. Gentle in disposition, medium in size, loyal and devoted to his master and family, not requiring extensive coat care or trimming, considered an "easy keeper"- all makes the Basset an ideal pet and housedog. The height should not exceed 14 inches, weighing in at 40 to 60 pounds. The coat is hard, smooth, and short, with sufficient density to be of use in all weather. In color the Basset is typically black, white and tan (tri-color) or lemon and white (bi-color), but any hound color is accepted. Costs- Up to $25.00 a month.
