The Belgian Tervuren is another of the Belgian types of shepherd dogs known as the Chien de Berger Belge. The Tervuren looks very much like the Groenendael in conformation, but its colors are very different. The close relationship between the two breeds grows out of the fact that the earliest of Belgium sheepdogs incorporated several different varieties.

When this group of sheepdogs were bred, sheepherding was a very important part of life in the rural areas. The dog's appearance was unimportant and he was bred only on the basis of his ability to herd. Therefore, all were bred indiscriminately. This gave the shepherds outstanding and capable sheepherding dogs but they lost many traits such as coat length and color.

Another intelligent sheepdog, this dog is devoted, courageous and friendly.  He is a strong, agile, well-muscled animal, alert and full of life.

Height- males, 24-26 inches; females, 22-24 inches.
