Bloodhound Breed Of Dog
|
|
Claudius Aelianus wrote his famous Historia Animalium in the third century A.D. In it he mentioned in glowing terms a breed of hound that was unrivaled for it's scenting powers. It was possessed of such great determination that it would not leave the trail until the quarry was located. There is little evidence to prove how far back the origin of the Bloodhound extends, but it is believed by many authorities that it was known throughout the Mediterranean countries long before the Christian era. A powerful dog that covers more ground than all of the other hounds. Medium size dog in height, average up to 90 pounds in weight. A very affectionate dog, never quarrelsome. Can be shy, especially when corrected. Height- males, 26 inches and to 90 pounds; bitches, 24 inches up to 80 pounds.
