Briard
Dog Breed
The Briard is a very old breed of French working dog. Originally used as a dog of defense against wolves and thieves. After the French Revolution the Briard became more of a herding dog and guardian of his masters' property. This is another of the dogs referred to in the early l800's as the Chien Berger de Brie(Shepherd Dog of Brie). He is a loyal, smart, and well behaved dog that does not wander and is excellent with children. Described as a "heart wrapped in fur", this dog is truly devoted to his master. Vigorous and alert, powerful without coarseness, strong in bone and muscle, exhibiting the strength and agility required of the herding dog. Height- males, 23-27 inches; females, 22-25 1/2 inches at the withers. Briard Club of America, Inc. (M) Secretary, Julie Reconnu, 11383 S. FM 148, Scurry, TX 75158, 972-452-8977, julierec@tvec.net
