The Cairn Terrier came about by the attempt to preserve the form of the working terrier of the Isle of Skye.

The Cairn today has the characteristics of the other terrier breeds, but has it's own definite characteristics. The head differs from other terriers. His expression shows keenness and alertness.

A small dog with bitches weighing in at 13 pounds; dogs, 14 pounds.

Height for the bitch, 91/2 inches at the withers; dogs, 10 inches.

Coat - a double coat, harsh outer coat with a soft undercoat.

Color - any color except white.
