Chihuahua Breed Of Dog
|
|
The Techichi is the breed of dog that existed in Mexico around the ninth century A.D. and it is believed that this dog is the forbearer of the Chihuahua. Pictures carved on stone from the Toltec era can be found in a monastery outside of Mexico City. These carvings show the Techichi in views which look very much like the Chihuahua of today. There are two different types of Chihuahua, the smooth coated and the long coated. The characteristics are the same in both types with just the coat being different. This breed is quite clannish, not really caring for dogs of other breeds. The smooth coated is most popular in the United States and is the most clannish. The long coated is quickly becoming more popular. The colors have a wide range in this breed, from snow white to jet black. The jet black with tan marking and the black and white spotted are the most favored in Mexico. In the United States the solid colors are seen the most. A small dog 5 to 6 inches in height, weighing 2 to 6 pounds. Coat types - short, long, all colors. Sheds a little. Costs - averages $15.00 a month. Chihuahua Club of America, Inc. Corres.
