Chinook Information

The Chinook was created in America around the beginning of the 20th century. Arthur Walden was involved in that he desired a dog that was able to pull his sleds. The Chinook is part Eskimo and part St. Bernard. The Chinook has the pulling power comparable to any snow-shoed arctic horse. Admiral Byrd's Antarctic expedition employed Chinook dogs.  Each one of these dogs pulled an average load of over 150 pounds.

These dogs are hardy, dedicated, strong willed and need to be taught early who is head dog.

Height - 21 to 26 inches (53 to 66 cm). Weight - 65 to 90 pounds (29 to 40 kg).

Coat type - medium and close lying. Color - tawny (a golden fawn).
