Black and Tan Coon Hound Dog Breed
|
|
Although somewhat new to our roster of pure-breds, looking back in history it is found that the Black and Tan Coonhound dog is actually an old breed. In all probability he has descended from the Talbot hound which was known in England during the reign of William I, Duke of Normandy, in the eleventh century. Then down through the Bloodhound and the Foxhound via the United States own Virginia Foxhound, often referred to as the "black and tan". A powerful working dog that is alert, and agile. Friendly, but aggressive in the field. Capable of withstanding the rigors of winter, the heat of summer and the difficult terrain over which he is called upon to work. Height- males, 25-27 inches; females, 23-25 inches.
