Irish Water Spaniels

That the Irish Water Spaniel is a dog of very ancient lineage is supported by the research made by Alan J. Stern, and reported upon in four articles in Pure-Bred Dogs- American Kennel Gazette. January-April 1965.

The articles noted that a Harvard archaeological expedition to Ireland unearthed among other dog remains an Irish Water Spaniel type skull identified to dogs living in the seventh or eighth century.

The Irish Water Spaniel is the tallest of the spaniels. He is known as the clown of the spaniel family. He is loyal to those he knows, but can be forbidding to strangers. This dog loves water and his coat is water repellent.

Height for dogs 22-24"; bitches 21-23" Weight for dogs 55-65 pounds; bitches 45-58 pounds.

Coat types - medium, curly, brown (Solid liver). Hardly ever sheds. Grooming- Professionial trim.
