Hamsters
Looking for a nice, cuddly, easy to care for pet for your
household? Hamsters are nocturnal by nature, but can be
entertaining to play with and watch.
Hedgehogs
Domestic hedgehogs prefer a warm climate (above 72°F/22°C) and do
not hibernate. Hedgehogs are a more high maintenance pet, but are
worth the added attention.
Llamas
Used as a system of transportation for the Incas, the Llama
originated in North America and then later on moved on to South
America.
Pot-bellied Pigs
Pot
bellied pigs, originally from Vietnam, are intelligent and easy to
train to perform tricks for a food reward. Many pot bellied pig
owners walk their pets on leashes.
Prairie Dogs
The
prairie dog (Cynomys) is a small, burrowing rodent native
to the grasslands of North America. Prairie dogs are very social
animals and come to almost seem like they treat humans as members of
their colony, answering barks and chirps, and even coming when
called by name.
Rats
Rats are intelligent animals and can be trained to use a litter box,
come when called, and a variety of tricks. Pet rats behave
differently than their wild relatives and do not pose any more
health risk than other, more common pets.
Snakes
Worshipped as one of the Gods in Ancient Egypt and modern India, a
snake is one of the most exotic pets you can find. There are many
different species of snake, so make sure you find which one suits
you best.
Sugar Gliders
The
Sugar Glider (Petaurus breviceps) is a small gliding
possum native to eastern and northern mainland Australia. The Sugar
Glider is a popular pet because of its lively nature, and it bonds
well to human companions.
Tarantulas
Tarantulas, being quiet animals, requiring surprisingly little
maintenance or cleaning, having no detectable odor, make great pets.
Zebus
A
zebu (Bos primigenius indicus) have humps, large dewlaps and
droopy ears. Zebus handle hot, humid climates well and have pest
resistances not seen in European cattle. |
