Native to S.E. Brazil. Length, 4 to 5 inches. Usually considered to be the most kindly of this general type and size of fish. Easily bred, even in aquaria that are too small. That is, it will manage in a 7-gallon tank, when it ought to have a 15-gallon or larger. It has an easy disposition and sure-fire breeding qualities. Most feed on prepared foods, worms, flies, larvae, cooked or uncooked fish, Daphnia. The fishes in warm water-75-85 degrees-are heavy eaters, and should be feed less than twice a day. Water, pH range: 6.5 - 7.0; dH range: 3.0 - 10.0, temperature 65-90 degrees. |
