Can grow to 10 inches in the wild. Known as the Climbing Perch. This fish gets everyone's attention as does any kind of the 'walking fish'. It has spiny edges on its gill plates. By extending the plates and using a clumsy rocking motion, it can make fairly good progress out of water. In its native habitat it is said to travel overland in search of a new pond if its own dries up. These are labyrinth fishes, but do not make any bubble-nest. Tiny eggs float on the water surface and hatch within a day. The parents ignore them. They love to eat and will take anything, preferably animal food in chunks. Better keep them in a tank of their own. Water temperature range, 65 to 90 degrees.
