Native to South America: Amazon and Guyana. Often mistaken for a anostomid, also referred to as a "headstander", because of its "head-down" way of swimming. Harmless, peaceful and not very lively. Feeds on worms, crustaceans, insects and plant matter. The mouth is rather small, so when prepared food is offered food should be of small grains.
