One of the smaller species of anabantids, they are often mistaken for cichlids. In the tank you should provide a weedy existence much like their habitat in the streams, ponds and rivers of Africa. They are carnivores and caution should be taken when introducing other species of the same size to the community. Larger fish do okay. Timid species won't last long with these fishes sharing the tank. Caution should be taken when trying to net these fish. Their serrated gill covers become flared when excited. If they do get caught in the net just put it back into the tank and the fish should release itself. More Fish and Aquaria Information Here
