Species Information

Native to South America: Amazonia. Oceania: Hawaii (introduced).

Another herbivore, so keep an eye on your aquatic plants. Known to quarrel among themselves, but are peaceful towards other fishes.

Feeds on worms, crustaceans, insects and plant matter. Also feeds on fish. Reproduction takes place from Dec. to May. Sexually mature at 15 cm.

Water, pH range: 5.5 - 7.5; dH range: 20.0
