Common to the rice fields of China where they endure varying water temperatures. One of the easier kept anabantids, the paradise fish is a nest builder using air bubbles in which to keep the eggs and can be easily bred. At one time this fish was considered an aquarium novelty. It is suitable for pond culture and can live in water down to 50 degrees. While some labyrinths are considered a fighter and untrustworthy in a small community tank this one is very tame, will take any foods, is long-lived, and can exist in very dirty water.
