Native to South America: Guyana to Rio Negro. This fish belongs to the Lebiasinidae family of characins and is also known as the golden pencilfish. Forms groups where the males dominate to defend their territory. Is highly appreciated by aquarists. Breeding these fishes is difficult but not impossible. Length, 1 1/2 inches Feeds on worms, crustaceans and insects. Feed should be small due to this fish having a tiny mouth. Water, pH range: 6.0 - 8.0; dH range: 5.0 - 19.0, temperature 73-80 degrees.
