Native to Southern Africa: Mozambique and South Africa, marshes on the coastal plain near Beira and pans in the Kruger National Park. This fish is sometimes referred to as an "annual Fish", this killie lives in ponds that evaporate during the dry season and the adult fishes dies. The eggs spawned by the adults lie dormant in the dried mud until the next rains. Not all of the eggs hatch as the first rain may be light and all of the fishes would die. Some eggs do not hatch until the second or third rain therefore assuring their survival. In the aquarium, some of the annual fishes live longer than a year. Bottom spawner, 4-6 months incubation. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium. Water, pH range: 6.0 - 7.0; dH range: 4.0 - 6.0 More Fish and Aquaria Information Here
