Native to Southeast Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi. Occurs on the northwestern coast between Cape Manulo and Kande Is. Also found on Jalo Reef, at Namalenje Is., Cape Maclear, Monkey Bay, Boadzulu Is. and Nkopola. On the eastern part, occurs at Fort Maguire, Masinje on Likoma and Chisumulu Is. This cichlid that loves abundant rocks in the tank. They occur in several colors called morphs. Feeds at right angles with the substrate by combing loose material from the bio-cover. Also feeds on plankton in the open water. Diet and water conditions need close attention or Malawi bloat may occur. Consult your local aquaria provider for diet information.
