Irish Wolf Hound Dog Breed Information

Irish Wolf Hound

By the year 391 A.D., the breed was known in Rome, when the first authentic mention of it was written by the Roman Consul Quitus Aurelius, who had received 7 of them as a gift which all Rome viewed with wonder.

It has been written, " The Irish Wolfhound is the largest of dog-kind and it's appearance the most beautiful. He is 3 feet high, somewhat like the Greyhound but more robust. His aspect is mild, his disposition is peaceable, yet his strength so great that in combat the Mastiff or Bulldog is far from being equal to him."

Because of his great size and the amount of exercise essential to his well being, the Irish Wolfhound is not a dog to be acquired without serious forethought. This dog does best when human companionship is the core of his daily life.

Minimum height and weight should be for the males, 32 inches and 120 pounds; females, 30 inches and 105 pounds.
