Kuvasz Dog Breed

Kuvasz Dogs

From Tibet, that strange high - flung domain of the llamas, came the ancestors of the breed that today is known as the Kuvasz. Yet this is not a new name for the breed. It is merely a corrupted spelling of Turkish and Arabian words that signified the unexcelled guarding instincts of this big dog.

Known in many countries, it was in Hungary that the Kuvasz developed into the form in which he is seen today. He still is a big dog, but he is not the giant of ancient times.

A highly intelligent dog of high spirit. Very sensitive to praise and blame. Known as a one-family dog, devoted, and gentle. Strong instinct to protect children to the point of self-sacrifice. Friendly to strangers, but suspicious. Courageous and fearless. All around great dog.

Height- males, 28-30 inches at the withers; females, 26-28 inches.

Weight- dogs, 100-115 pounds; bitches, 70-90 pounds.
