Otter Hound Information

Otterhound Dog

The Otter Hound can be traced back to 1307 where a huntsman, William Twici, mentions them as a "rough sort of dog" somewhere between a hound and a terrier. Some believe it's ancestors are the Southern hound and the Welsh Harrier. Another says the coat of the Otter Hound is like that of the Water Spaniel -and credits it's hardiness to the Bulldog. The French version is said to have the exact coat and body formation as the old Vendee hound of France.

The Otter Hound is a large, rough-coated dog. His length is equal to his height. A real sniffer of a dog because of his keen sense of smell. Very devoted to his owner.
