Saluki Dog Breed Information

Saluki Dog Breed

The royal dog of Egypt and the oldest known breed of domesticated dog. Carvings found that resemble the Saluki, in excavations in Sumeria, date back to 7000 - 6000 BC. The word dog, when mentioned in the Bible, refers to the Saluki.

The Saluki's sight is remarkable, and his hereditary traits often crop out- he loves to lie on sand and watch an eagle soaring for his prey while paying no attention to the gull.

Salukis come in a variety of colors, including white, cream, fawn, golden, red. grizzle and tan. tri-color(white, black, and tan), and black and tan.

In his disposition he shows great attachment to his master. He is affectionate without being demonstrative, a good watchdog but not aggressive.

A dog of tremendous speed.

Height of 23 to 28 inches.
