Saluki Dog Breed Information
|
|
The royal dog of Egypt and the oldest known breed of domesticated dog. Carvings found that resemble the Saluki, in excavations in Sumeria, date back to 7000 - 6000 BC. The word dog, when mentioned in the Bible, refers to the Saluki. The Saluki's sight is remarkable, and his hereditary traits often crop out- he loves to lie on sand and watch an eagle soaring for his prey while paying no attention to the gull. Salukis come in a variety of colors, including white, cream, fawn, golden, red. grizzle and tan. tri-color(white, black, and tan), and black and tan. In his disposition he shows great attachment to his master. He is affectionate without being demonstrative, a good watchdog but not aggressive. A dog of tremendous speed. Height of 23 to 28 inches.
