Shetland Sheepdogs

shetland sheepdog

The Shetland Sheepdog is the ultimate "all purpose" farm dog. Not only will he herd the animals, but he is also a protector of the family and property. Mainly bred as a companion, or for showing, some are still chosen as a working dog. He belongs to the herding class. As most animals with the name "Shetland", he is small, a miniature version of the Collie.

He is small (weighs 14-17 pounds, hair is long and straight. Colors are; black with white, sable with white, or tri-colored. He will shed, but regular brushing and grooming will help. Can be an inside or outside dog.

With a strong desire to please, he will quickly learn and be responsive to his owner. Natural instinctive traits makes him want to herd anything from children to any live stock.

Being affectionate and loyal, he will need lots of petting and attention. Which is a small price to pay for such a wonderful friend.
