Shiba Inu originated in the inland areas of Japan approximately 3000
years ago. It is thought that these dogs may have originally come from
the South Seas. The Shiba Inu is very much like a cat. He is clean, independent, and smart enough to amuse himself for hours on end. His appearance and ideal size make him one of the perkiest and brightest cats to appear in the west in many years. Those who favor the Akita for its unique qualities, have found the Shiba to offer them the same traits in a more conveniently sized dog.
